June 2008

Dear Friend of NAMI North Carolina:

This is my last letter of solicitation for contributions this fiscal year for NAMI North Carolina.  My hope is that you will generously respond, knowing that your financial support goes toward improving the quality of life for individuals and their families living with the debilitating effects of severe and persistent mental illness.

Why should you give?  Here are some examples of the good work being accomplished with your donation and the donations of others:

  • Building 6 new affiliates,
  • Working to rebuild and strengthen existing affiliates through on-site help and consultation,
  • Increasing Crisis Intervention Team training across the state by involving local NAMI affiliates in developing police training,
  • Expanding our ability to train more and more teachers and expand our programs
  • Getting the attention of candidates for office.  For the first time, the need for improved mental health services is actually on their radar!

I also am so proud to share with your our recent triumph – our fourth NAMI Walk, held in Raleigh May l7, exceeded all goals and expectations.  Together, we raised over $90,000 to go towards NAMI’s mission of support, education and advocacy for mental illness.  Over 350 walkers representing 53 teams and 14 affiliates had a great day, in a great location, with lots and lots of fun activities.  One woman commented to the Executive Director that “NAMI NC is coming back to life!”

In this special correspondence, you have an opportunity to support the Dave Silber Endowment fund (see attached letter) which was established to build and strengthen affiliates in North Carolina through a protected endowment.  You may also choose to make a gift to the annual fund, which supports our day-to-day immediate operations, educational programs and advocacy efforts.  Either way, you’re helping where help is much needed.

It goes without saying that all of us at NAMI are concerned with mental health reform and possess the desire to ensure that NAMI North Carolina continues in achieving our mission of support, education, and advocacy.  So please, take a few minutes to complete the enclosed form and return it with your tax deductible donation.

Sincerely,

Nancye Bryan
