Mental Illness & Families: A Story of Support

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Living with mental illness, whether it’s you or your child or sibling, is very difficult.
And because of the stigma attached, people don’t want to talk about it. They’re afraid you’ll judge them or ridicule them in some way. And that’s not a healthy way to live. 9 On Your Side found a group of people who know the best way to live with mental illness is through unity, pulling together to make a challenging experience easier.

Children’s Mental Health Awareness 2013 – Every Child Matters!

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week (May 5-11th) was created by the National Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health and is held every year during the first full week of May. This year’s theme is: Out of the Shadows: Exposing Stigma.

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day (May 9th) was created by SAMHSA in 1994 to increase awareness around children’s mental health.

You might find yourself asking what NAMI North Carolina has been up to this year. Well, we have decided to start posting our quarterly reports that will show you how many classes we are offering, Helpline calls we are receiving, outreach into communities, collaboration with other organizations, service on committees and much, much more!

So feel free to take a look at our quarterly report that we submit to the Division of MH/DD/SAS to show what work we have done through a contract supported by the Mental Health Block Grant and other supporters across the state.

We appreciate all of the support that we receive from the state, community partners, grants, and from our donors!
