Member, NAMI Wake County, NC
I have been fortunate to have had a lifetime career in mental health advocacy and treatment programs where I directed and provided psychological services through integrated health care settings in the Air Force and Centura Health in Colorado. As a result, I have seen the significant benefit of comprehensive, holistic treatment to the physical and mental health of many individuals and families. When my younger son was diagnosed with a serious mental illness about 20 years ago I even more appreciated the value of integrated treatment. I also experienced the power of NAMI education, advocacy, and support programs. This was particularly evident through my involvement with my wife, Sandy, in teaching family to family courses, facilitating family support groups, and providing state family support group facilitator training for NAMI Colorado and NAMI New Mexico. I feel that NAMI programs should be available to as many people as possible. I am committed to expanding NAMI programs throughout North Carolina by working closely with all affiliates and by regularly collaborating with all mental health organizations.
