Training Challenge!

Through fundraising and awareness, NAMIWalks North Carolina plays a vital role in our ability to improve the lives of North Carolinians affected by mental illness.   NAMIWalks North Carolina is going virtual this year and we are excited to say the least! There are going to be over 30 NAMI organizations around the country participating in the big day on May the 30th.  We’re really hoping to build the excitement over this unprecedented mental health awareness event!

So, we think this calls for a contest! As part of the buildup to the event and in preparation for Mental Health Awareness month in May, we are inviting you to start “training” today! We want to see what you are you doing in preparation for the big event! And we want to hear and see why you Walk.

So, where will you walk? You could walk in the park, dress up as your favorite superhero and walk around the neighborhood, walk inside on your treadmill… the possibilities are virtually endless! Do you have a four-legged walking partner? Awesome! Would you rather bike or run to train? Perfect!  Or if there is someone special that you are walking for, you could honor them by doing one of their favorite activities – – crafting, playing basketball, doing a puzzle, gardening,…

Please post a video describing why you are participating in the Walk and/or  your “training” activities on social media and use the hashtag #NAMIwalksNC AND tag NAMI North Carolina – (@NAMINorthCarolina on Facebook, @namiwalksnc on Instagram and @NAMINCarolina on Twitter). You should also add a link to your personal NAMIWalks Fundraising page.  (If you haven’t already registered, you can register  for free below and make your page!)

Not into Social Media?  You can also send your videos and/or pictures of you, your signs, images, or whatever your creative mind comes up with to: marcom@naminc.org  by May 20th.  Please provide your contact information in the email and whether or not you would like for us to credit you by name if we are permitted to share the material.  Need a few pointers?  Check out the Participant Tool Kit!

Winners with the most informative, poignant, creative, or wacky posts or submissions will be featured on our Walk Day and possibly before! We hope you’ll have fun with it and maybe even find it as a means to find a bit of relief in this stressful time—all while building awareness.

Contest deadline is May 20th, but your posts and efforts will make a difference to Walk day and beyond!

We hope your efforts take off and we all have a Super Walk – not all mental health heroes wear capes!

FUNDRAISING

A second aspect of NAMIWalks, and very important one is fundraising.  So if you haven’t already, please register for the Walk, and begin your fundraising campaign.  Now, more than ever funds raised from NAMIWalks is a vital part of our ability to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness.  Adding the Fun to Fundraising Guide
